The state of Amazonas has been affected by the worst drought in its history. In October 2023, all 62 municipalities in the state had declared a state of emergency and with more than 150,000 estimated families affected, totaling around 600,000 people.

Within this context, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) is supporting the state of Amazonas in defining and implementing sensitive measures for children, adolescents, and their families, considering the current and future impacts on health, access to drinking water, sanitation and hygiene, education, social protection, and protection against violence.
