As the provincial government transforms relationships with Indigenous peoples to recognize inherent rights such as self-determination, the Indigenous Relations Branch (IRB) provides a leadership role to the Ministry in its reconciliation efforts with Indigenous Peoples. A key component of reconciliation involves working collaboratively and respectfully with all Indigenous Peoples on building and maintaining partnerships with all levels of Government, industry and partners.

IRB leads work to guide the implementation of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Calls to Action, and the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (Declaration Act) in the Ministry.
