Light Transport Driver

As per the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE), the minimum basic salary for light vehicle drivers in private sector contracts is AED 3,000 per month if accommodation is provided by the employer, or AED 5,000 without accommodation, effective January 2026. Overtime pay is 125% of the hourly rate for the first two hours and 150% thereafter, calculated on 208 working hours per month. Employers must register salaries via the Wage Protection System monthly.

Foreign drivers require a job offer from a UAE employer who applies for a work permit through the MOHRE portal, costing AED 200-600 depending on category. Applicants must be aged 21-65, hold a valid passport with 6 months validity, pass medical fitness test (AED 350), and obtain police clearance. The permit allows 60 days to enter UAE and convert to a 2-year residence visa via ICP.

No minimum education is required for light vehicle driver roles, but high school certificate is mandatory for heavy vehicle or truck drivers as of 2026. Minimum 2 years verifiable driving experience and a valid home country license are needed, plus passing UAE medical and eye tests. Age must be at least 21 years with no serious criminal record.

Required documents include passport copy, 4 passport photos, home driving license, experience letters, and medical report. The employer submits the application on MOHRE smart app or portal (approval in 5 days, fee AED 100-300), followed by employee fingerprinting at typing center (AED 115) and residency visa stamping (AED 750). Full process from offer to work start takes 10-15 days.
