Job Description
Specialist-Welding
• Define and govern Welding Procedures (WPS), PQRs, and WPQ for all project types (Bulk Material Handling, Minerals Processing Plants, Pellet Plants, Steel Plants, Non Ferrous Projects).
• Ensure compliance with international standards (ASME, AWS, EN, IS codes).
• Lead development of advanced welding techniques (GTAW, SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, SAW, Orbital Welding, Cladding, Hardfacing).
• Drive adoption of automation & mechanized welding for improved productivity and quality
• Provide technical guidance to project teams during fabrication, erection, pre commissioning, and shutdowns.
• Conduct critical welding reviews, joint designs, consumable selection, and metallurgy decisions.
• Troubleshoot complex site issues including material incompatibilities, failures, distortions, rework, delays, etc.
• Review and approve subcontractor welding capabilities
• Ensure all welding works meet IC level and client quality requirements.
• Establish Inspection & Test Plans (ITP) and QA procedures specific to welding.
• Implement root cause analyses (RCA) and corrective action plans for welding defects.
• Audit fabrication shops, yards, and site welding operations
• Develop and run Welding Engineer, Supervisor & Welder skill enhancement programs across IC.
• Define and monitor welder qualification programs.
• Support development of welding simulators, training modules, and certification paths
• Ensure strict compliance with welding safety practices, including hot work permits, PPE, fume extraction, and fire safety.
• Promote sustainable welding solutions (low fume consumables, reduced wastage)
• Optimize consumable selection and usage to reduce wastage and cost.
• Drive initiatives to reduce rework and improve fabrication cycle times.
• Develop KPIs for productivity, quality, and cost control in welding
• Work closely with Engineering, Quality, SCM, Construction, HSE, Tendering, and Digital teams.
• Support tendering teams with welding inputs, productivity benchmarks, and cost estimates.
• Lead digital transformation initiatives (e WPS, welder performance monitoring, NDT integration)
