The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment sets the adult minimum wage at NZ$26.50 per hour from 1 April 2026 for all drivers including truck and delivery roles. Overtime must be paid at 1.5 times the rate after 40 hours per week. This applies to all employment agreements without exception.

Immigration New Zealand requires a Straight to Work visa or Accredited Employer Work Visa for drivers from outside New Zealand. Applicants must hold a job offer from an accredited employer and pay NZ$1,040 for the visa application as of 2026. The visa allows up to three years of work in driving roles.

Bus drivers must hold a full Class 2 or Class 4 licence plus a Passenger endorsement issued by NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi. At least two years of relevant driving experience is required for most roles. No formal education qualification is mandated beyond the licence.

Applications require a current CV, NZQA-recognised licence copy, proof of right to work, and IRD number. Employers must verify documents via the employment.govt.nz system before hiring. All documents must be submitted electronically through the accredited employer portal.
