As per the UK Government, the National Living Wage for workers aged 21 and over is £12.50 per hour as of 1 April 2026, applying directly to welder roles. Overtime rates must be at least 1.5 times this base for hours exceeding 40 per week under standard contracts. Employers must display this rate on payslips from that date.

As per the UK Government, non-UK welders need a Skilled Worker visa sponsored by a licensed employer with a minimum salary of £38,700 or the going rate for welders, whichever is higher, from January 2026. The visa lasts up to 5 years and requires a Certificate of Sponsorship issued after 6 April 2026 rules. Applicants must score 70 points including English language at B1 level.

As per the UK Government, welders must hold at least an NVQ Level 2 in Welding or equivalent plus a valid CSCS card to work on construction sites from 2026. Three years of documented experience is required for most employer-sponsored roles under immigration rules. Additional certification such as BS EN ISO 9606-1 is mandatory for pressure vessel work.

As per the UK Government, applicants must provide a valid passport, proof of qualifications such as NVQ certificates, and a CSCS card when applying for welder roles in 2026. For sponsored positions, a Certificate of Sponsorship reference number is mandatory before visa application. Right to work checks require original documents presented in person within 3 months of start date.
