Summary:

This position is an hourly welder/fabricator for roll service work at the Clinton, LA. The Welder/Fabricator must perform skilled work in MIG, TIG, stickโ€ฆ. steel, cast iron and stainless. Also some dis-assembly, preparation, cleaning, inspection, assembly and maintenance. This location of machine shop deals in a variety of paper machine rolls, various metal parts, and tools. Welder must employ a high degree of accuracy and precision in performing work according to instructions and specifications. Assignments are received in the form of oral instructions, penciled layouts, blueprints, sketches, and by reference to worn or broken parts. Work methods and procedures are determined by the employee, but the work is subject to inspection during process and upon completion for quality and conformity with requirements.

Essential Functions:

ยท Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.

MIG, TIG, stick, steel, cast iron and stainless.

Knowledge of:

ยท Job related materials.

ยท The tools, materials, methods, and standard practices of the mechanicโ€™s trade.

ยท OEM specifications and measurements related to precision bearing fits and proper mounting procedures.

ยท Working knowledge of bearing types, housings, journals, end covers, clutch hubs, seals, labyrinths, etc

ยท The hazards and safety precautions of the mechanicโ€™s trade.

ยท Knowledge or familiarity with Paper Machine Rolls is a huge plus.

ยท Overhead crane operation and handling large heavy objects by crane

ยท Safe work procedures and ability to recognize need for and utilize all necessary personal protective devices and procedures

Ability to:

ยท Visualize parts or equipment that need to be assembled from rough sketches and oral instructions.

ยท Use graphic instructions such as blueprints, sketches, models, or other visual aids.

ยท Understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions in the English language.

ยท Learn job-related material primarily through oral instruction and observation. This learning takes place mainly in an on-the-job training setting.

Additional Requirements:

ยท Some positions will require the performance of other essential and marginal functions depending upon the work location, assignment, or shift.

ยท Overtime hours may be required.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort:

ยท Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.

ยท Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 50 pounds or standing and /or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.

ยท Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.

ยท Must remain in a standing position for extended periods of time.

ยท Make fine, highly controlled muscular movements to assemble complicated assemblies.

ยท Controlled manipulations of small objects (Example: working with drills and micrometers).

ยท Bend or stoop repeatedly or continually over time.

Acceptable Experience and Training:

One year of experience as a skilled mechanic and completion of a recognized apprenticeship program, or three years of experience as a skilled mechanic. Other combinations of experience and education that meet requirements may be substituted. Experience with Paper Machine or Steel Mill rolls is highly desired.

Seeking experienced welder/fabricator to perform large fabrication in carbon and stainless steel. Ability to read blueprints, operate an overhead crane and rigging experience.
